Hi!

Hi everyone,

This will be the new home of all chicago-area-trip information as my dad (Craig) suggested. I'll post all the emails I've gotten so far below.
Sam

Please work on a plan that coordinates and allows for negotiations with all of the plans below. It would be great if it was an actual guide -- perhaps as a blog -- that we could then comment on and document.

We are driving to the farm on August 2nd mid-day directly from Jemicy. I will have a MiFi for internet in the car or any locations.

We will eat lunch at John Brown's store.

Then, we will sleep at the farm. And, leave early the next morning (by 7AM?)

On August 3rd, we will drive to Ithaca New York. And, likely go directly up through Pennsylvania (instead of over to the east and then up to New York state). I'd like to get there in the morning -- so that we can go to the farmer's market when we arrive (around noon?)

We will stay at the Statler Hotel in the center of Cornell's campus. across the street from the library.

You will have your days to do whatever you like. And, we will give you a key to the room. Mom will arrange for tours of Cornell and Ithaca College (if you want) on August 5th, 6th.

You can have a breakfast and lunch budget to go off on your own -- or to find others in Ithaca -- perhaps connected to the theater group or anyone else you know in town (or in town through FaceBook). We can also spend some "chore" money for anything else -- but you will have to have a plan to get up and down the hill if you go downtown or things going on at Cornell -- bowling? something at the library? free concerts?

You should have a plan of activities -- perhaps involving the library -- or something on campus. For August 4, 5, 6.

Lucy will likely play with Roey the entire days -- perhaps you can do something with them too -- or rendezvous with them? You will have to work that out with them.

Mom is working on a project at least one of those days, and I hope to work all day on my illustrations for the Bob Brown project with Elfin Burrill -- August 4 and 5 at least and hopefully 6th too.

You can help plan our family's dinners for the evenings of August 3, 4, 5, 6. This may involve other families or people -- so you'll have to work with mom on figuring that part out.

We will leave Cornell very early on August 7th, and drive to Cleveland Ohio where we are staying at the Hyatt at the Arcades.

If you find a college directly on our route between Ithaca and Cleveland perhaps we can tour it? But, no college jumped out at us. And, we would like a stop half way to Cleveland -- probably in Jamestown -- I found one place only. There is not much between those two locations. We had thought about Chataqua in western New York -- but expensive and not sure what we would do there.

You can help plan lunch stop on the way from Ithaca to Cleveland, activities in Cleveland and dinner there.

From Cleveland, the next morning, we will drive to Oberlin College -- and hope to take a tour of campus.

Then, we drive to Bowling Green -- I will go off for meetings all the rest of the day in Bowling Green -- and you can either take a tour of Bowling Green State University (and arrange with Mom to get a tour) or do something at Bowling Green -- so start planning that day (and co-ordinate with Melissa Miller -- who is taking a day off to spend the day with us).

Then, we will sleep at Neal and Melissa's house -- and hopefully take them out to dinner -- or buy everyone PIZZA to eat at their house. So, they live in PERRYSVILLE OH (a suburb of Toledo) -- so plan for that town. And, figure out with Melissa Miller about food her kids and family like.

We will wake-up early on August 9th and drive all the way to EVANSTON Illinois. We will get the key from Cliff, and stay at his house.

Mom has planned tours of School of the Art Institute of Chicago (I think on Saturday August 10th), Northwestern University, and no other tours yet (see very soon what other schools in northern Illinois you want to look at). Columbia College?

We will stay in Evanston -- and do things with Gramma --- Cliff says there is a play to see that he just saw, Gramma Johanna talked about Ravinia . . .  etc.

We will stay in Evanston -- Cliff's house (but they won't be there) -- from August 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and leave on the 16th (?)

So, we need activities everyday -- and restaurants -- in Evanston -- (and some days in Chicago) -- things to bring Gramma with mostly. She might want us to eat at her place's restaurant. And, she REALLY likes the Indonesian (?) restaurant on the same street as the Mather -- so let's plan on that place once.

You and Lucy can also go on an adventure by yourselves -- in Chicago -- or Evanston.

On August 16 (?) we start driving back to Baltimore. We are thinking of the southernly route. That would take us through COLUMBUS Ohio . . . Mom wants to go white water rafting . . .  I need to get back a little faster than everyone else. So, I was thinking about flying?

OK, so keep me posted on the plan!

--------

University Circle, the West Side Market (where you can get REAL and excellent kielbasa), and - yes - the R&R Hall of Fame (it's pretty good).

I don't think we will have the whole day for the R&R museum, but the market -- for dinner maybe?

Keep me posted on the plans.

------

Here is our entire schedule before Chicago:

August 3rd = leave farm and drive Ithaca New York.

August 3-6 = Ithaca (Lynn working on a project with a nano-grant she got called Nano-performances with a theater director at Cornell; and I'm working on illustrations with Bob Brown's great grandson (still no book contract); Lucy is visiting with Roey; Sam will hang out at Cornell and more.

August 7 = drive to Cleveland (just because it is so far to Bowling Green) -- staying at Hyatt at Arcades

August 8th = visit Oberlin on the way to Bowling Green

August 9th = drive to Evanston from Melissa's house

I will tell Sam to plan with Ben for the Chicago-land portion of the trip -- Sam is our planner. He has tours of SAIC on Saturday; and tours of Northwestern on Monday; and, any other places? --

Do you know of any pools with diving boards and/or platforms? for Lucy

Looking forward to the vacation!!!
